A Little History...
I was fortunate in 1999 to purchase 18 acres of land on Charleston’s barrier island of Folly Beach across the street from the Atlantic Ocean.
In its history, the land housed the 1920’s built Folly Boys Camp, has and continues to be a bird and wildlife sanctuary, and from the looks of the terrain, was a supply loading point for Union forces in preparation for the Battle of Charleston in the Civil War. Over the years, I have restored the 1600sf house, groomed the land, built a dock to deep water, and added fun stuff like a tree house, outdoor stone fireplace and dining table, zip line, swings and over a mile of walking/golf cart trails through moss laden oaks and along the riverfront and marsh. Inside, the all heart pine house has been restored with modern conveniences. decorated with funky antiques and artwork.
As my second home, it has been a place of solitude, rejuvenation and wonder for my family and friends, as well as like-minded folks needing to get away from it all.
If you have a desire to slow down the clock and reconnect with sunsets, water and the night sky, then the River House may be what you’re looking for.
It is a cozy 2 bed/2 bath getaway perfect for two couples or a small family. Downtown Charleston is 22 minutes (12 miles) away with Folly being the closest beach island to the town’s history, culture and distinguished restaurant scene.
A Boater's / Fisherman's Paradise the River House has direct access to the Ocean approximately 1/2 mile away and is 5 nautical miles to the Inter Coastal Waterway. The land sits on the Folly River where the Stono River meets the Atlantic. The deep water dock has a covered sitting area for fishing and crabbing. There is a 10 x 20 foot floating dock for docking during the day. We recently installed a floating boat lift for storage during longer visits. My children spend many of the hotter days jumping off the dock and swimming in the cool river waters.
